The United States Geological Survey is reporting that two small earthquakes shook parts of Taney County on Sunday, December 17, 2017. The first quake struck at 2:53 p.m. Central time with a magnitude of 2.5, and the second quake struck just four minutes later with magnitude of 1.9.
The epicenter of the quakes is in extreme northern Arkansas about 25 southeast of downtown Branson along the shores of Bull Shoals Lake. They were relatively shallow quakes with a depth of around 1 to 1.5 miles. No injuries or damage have been reported.
This isn’t the first earthquake hit the Bull Shoals Lake area in 2017. Last June several quakes hit the area with the strongest registering a magnitude of 3.6.
